MADE IN DENMARK

A photo series from 2017 showing crafts and design products made in Denmark.

Why ‘Made in Denmark’? Why the focus on ‘made’? – why not focus on design?

A focus on ‘made’, on production, is also a focus on design; it is a focus on the very basis of our claim to fame as a design nation. That’s why.

Focusing on ‘Made in Denmark’ is not a criticism of the makers or companies that produce outside Denmark. There are a thousand good reasons to produce in Sweden, in Italy, in Bolivia, in Nepal and all sorts of other places.

My focus on ‘Made in Denmark’ is a tribute to the people who make sure that we preserve a localized mastery of skills and knowledge about how to work with materials and how to marry a design vision with a material.

Hvorfor ”Made in Denmark”? Hvorfor fokus på ”made”?
